How to Choose a BA vs BS in Communication
The BA in Communication at UofL emphasizes the development of oral and written communication skills alongside a broad liberal arts foundation. This option is ideal for students who value versatility and critical thinking and who may be interested in roles that require strong analytical, cultural and interpersonal communication skills.
Beyond general education and Arts & Sciences requirements, the BA includes 36 credit hours of core communication coursework and 35 credit hours of supporting coursework, including foreign language and liberal arts.
The BS in Communication offers a more applied, skills-focused approach for students who want to deepen their expertise in practical communication areas. With increased emphasis on professional skills such as copywriting and public speaking, the BS prepares students for roles that benefit from hands-on experience. An internship is required, providing the opportunity to apply classroom learning in real-world settings.
The BS includes 48 credit hours of core communication coursework and 27–29 credit hours of supporting coursework, in addition to general education and Arts & Sciences requirements.
