Application deadline subject to change. The next cohort begins in Summer 2027. We review complete applications as they are submitted and make decisions throughout the admission cycle. The preferred application deadline is February 10, 2027. Admission continues until the cohort is filled, and decisions may be made before the preferred deadline. Applicants are encouraged to apply early.
Note: the application deadline helps you complete the application, be notified of acceptance and enroll before the term begins. The review committee admits students once per year and the cohort begins in the summer term. We recommend that you submit your complete application well in advance of the deadline, as obtaining official transcripts and other materials required for admission may take longer than expected.

"We are excited to launch the Online PhD ELOD program here at the University of Louisville, where students will experience a carefully designed program that will expose participants to theories, methodologies and hands-on research opportunities, all while students can continue their professional careers. We know the importance of delivering flexible learning opportunities to students while supporting their success in the program and in their careers."
The Executive Online PhD includes four required in-person experiences: a summer residency at the University of Louisville in Year 1 as part of LEAD 710; attendance at the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) conference in Years 2 and 3; and an on-campus dissertation defense in Year 4. ASHE locations vary by year. The timing of the defense depends on the student's progress and dissertation readiness. For more information, visit the ASHE website.
Specific dates and arrangements for the on-campus (first term Summer Residency) experience and the annual ASHE conferences will be coordinated with the program. Students will receive specific information from faculty members well in advance to ensure proper coordination and communication. Students are responsible for paying for their travel and other accommodation expenses to and from these in-person events and are encouraged to work with their employers to identify professional development funds to help offset the cost of attendance.
