The University of Louisville is expanding its online graduate offerings for educators with the launch of the Master of Education in Educational Administration (MEdEA), a new program designed to prepare experienced K–12 educators to become school principals and administrators.

Offered by UofL’s College of Education and Human Development, the MEd in Educational Administration combines leadership-focused coursework with practical experience to help educators expand their influence beyond the classroom and lead thriving school communities.

Prepare to Lead in K–12 Education

Great schools need great leaders. The new MEdEA program is designed for seasoned educators with at least three years of K–12 teaching experience who are ready to take the next step in their careers.

Students develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to lead educators, support student success and build strong partnerships with families and communities. Coursework explores transformational and instructional leadership as well as areas essential to educational administration, including K–12 education law and policy, human resources, fiscal management, curriculum, student performance and school improvement.

The program also prepares graduates for professional practice and licensure as school principals and can prepare students for the Kentucky School Principal Professional Certification.

Online Learning with Real-World Experience

The 30-credit-hour program is designed to be completed in five consecutive semesters, or approximately 18 months, alongside a consistent cohort of fellow educators.

Coursework is delivered online in a synchronous format, providing working educators with the convenience of online learning while creating opportunities for real-time interaction with faculty and classmates.

Students also complete a 10-week professional practicum with a currently serving principal at a school near them. This hands-on experience spans key periods in the school year and gives aspiring administrators an opportunity to apply what they have learned while gaining insight into the day-to-day realities of school leadership.

Throughout the program, students learn from experienced UofL faculty and a principal mentor who can help connect leadership theory with professional practice.

Expand Your Impact Beyond the Classroom

For educators ready to influence student success on a larger scale, earning an MEd in Educational Administration can open the door to opportunities such as principal, assistant principal, district administrator, instructional coordinator, director or supervisor and other education leadership positions.

The program is about more than advancing into a new role. It is designed to prepare educators to create stronger learning environments, empower teachers and help shape the future of the schools and communities they serve.

Prospective students interested in beginning the program in the spring are encouraged to submit their applications by the October 15 application deadline.

You are already shaping young minds. Now expand your influence.
