Whether you're an undergraduate or graduate student, connecting with your advisor early and regularly can make a big difference in your academic journey.
Undergraduate Advising
- If you are a transfer student, contact your program's advising unit to set up an appointment before you begin classes. Of course, you are welcome to come to campus for advising, if you live nearby.
- If you are not a transfer student, refer to your letter of admission to determine whether you need to be advised.
Graduate Advising
Refer to your letter of admission or contact your program’s department to determine whether advising is required prior to registration. You are encouraged to speak with an advisor even if not required for registration.
Cardinal Card - your UofL online student ID
All enrolled students are eligible to receive a Cardinal Card, UofL’s official student ID. Your card gives you access to student discounts, library privileges and (if local) free TARC public transportation.
To request your card, email cardinalcard@louisville.edu and you’ll receive documentation to complete your request.
You can receive only one free Cardinal Card throughout your time here at UofL. There is a $15 fee for a replacement card.
Already have a card from a prior program? You do not need a new one.
Are you a UofL employee? Due to system restrictions, UofL employees are not eligible for student IDs.
Note: You’ll need a Cardinal Card to be assigned a library number for library services on campus, though one isn’t required to use online library services.
