UofL’s online Bachelor of Arts in Public Health prepares you to explore those questions and understand the systems and strategies used to improve population health.
Through an interdisciplinary curriculum, you’ll build foundational knowledge across epidemiology, health policy, environmental health, health communication, quantitative methods, health care systems and public health interventions.
You’ll also develop transferable skills in critical thinking, communication, research and analysis that can support a variety of public health careers and graduate or professional pathways.
The BA in Public Health requires a minimum of 120 credit hours, including 47 credit hours of public health program requirements, supporting coursework, general education requirements and electives. Students can transfer in up to 60 hours of previously earned college credit from a community college and up to 90 credits from 4-year accredited institutions, making this bachelor’s degree attainable.

How to Apply to UofL’s Online BA in Public Health Degree

What Admissions Requirements are for the Online BA in Public Health
All newly admitted students are required to meet with SPHIS Undergraduate Advising prior to enrolling in classes.
Admission is granted to students meeting the following requirements:
Entering First-Year Students and Transfer Students with Fewer than 24 Credit Hours
- Good Standing
- Must meet minimum university admissions requirements
- One of the following:
- Graduation from accredited high school
- Successful completion of General Education Development (GED) tests
- High school GPA of 2.5 or higher
- ACT/SAT score of 20/1030 or higher (optional)
- College GPA of 2.0 (if applicable)
Conditional Admission
Students who meet University minimum academic standards may be conditionally admitted

Transfer student with 24 credit hours or more
- Good Standing
Must meet minimum university admissions requirements, including a 2.0 Cumulative college GPA (includes UofL GPA). Conditional Admission

Is public health the same as epidemiology?
No. Epidemiology is one important discipline within public health. Epidemiologists study patterns and causes of health outcomes within populations. A public health degree is broader and can include epidemiology alongside health behavior, environmental health, policy, health systems, communication, quantitative methods and other areas.
Can I transfer credits into the online public health program?
Students with previous college coursework can apply to UofL as transfer students.[DL6] Students may transfer up to 60 hours from a community college and up to 90 hours from an accredited four-year college. To get an idea of how many credits you'll be able to transfer toward your UofL bachelor's degree, complete the credit transfer pre-evaluation. Students submit transcripts from all undergraduate institutions attended as part of the admissions process. Upon review, some or all credit may be applied to the degree program selected. How many credits apply toward the BA in Public Health will depend on your previous coursework and UofL’s transfer-credit evaluation.
What GPA do I need for the BA in Public Health?
For first-year students and transfer students with fewer than 24 college credit hours, admission in good standing to SPHIS generally requires a 2.5 high school GPA and a 2.0 college GPA if applicable. Transfer students with 24 or more college credit hours must meet UofL admission requirements, including a minimum 2.0 cumulative college GPA.
Do I need ACT or SAT scores?
Standardized test scores are optional under the program’s current admission requirements.

The current standard tuition rate for fully online undergraduate programs at UofL is $568 per credit hour, plus a $10 per-credit-hour online course fee. Eligible military students may qualify for a $250 per-credit-hour tuition rate for most undergraduate programs. Tuition and fees are subject to change.
