UofL Online Doctor of Social Work Ranked No. 4 Nationally by Forbes Advisor and “Best Deal for Military Students”

The University of Louisville’s online Doctor of Social Work (DSW) program has been ranked No. 4 in the nation by Forbes Advisor in its 2026 ranking of the Best Online Doctorates in Social Work. The program also earned a special distinction as the “Best Deal for Military Students.”

The recognition places UofL among a select group of institutions nationwide offering high-quality online doctoral education in social work and highlights the program’s combination of academic rigor, flexibility and value.

Forbes Advisor evaluated 113 accredited, nonprofit colleges across the United States before identifying its top 10 online social work doctoral programs. The ranking considered 14 data points across categories including credibility, affordability, student outcomes and student experience.

Preparing experienced social workers to lead

Offered through UofL’s Raymond A. Kent School of Social Work and Family Science, the 100% online DSW is designed for experienced social workers who want to expand their influence as scholar-practitioners, educators and leaders.

The program helps students translate research into meaningful action while strengthening their ability to address complex social issues, evaluate and implement evidence-informed interventions and lead change across organizations, communities, policy and professional practice.

The 44-credit-hour program includes both teaching and leadership practica, giving students opportunities to apply what they learn in real-world professional settings. Students complete the program with an original capstone project developed under faculty mentorship.

Because the doctorate is delivered online, working professionals can continue building their careers while pursuing advanced education alongside a cohort of experienced social work professionals.

In addition to its No. 4 national ranking, Forbes Advisor named UofL’s DSW the “Best Deal for Military Students” among the programs included in its top 10.

Active-Duty service members, Coast Guard and qualifying members of the Reserves and National Guard military students at UofL receive a reduced tuition rate of $250 per credit hour, making advanced education more accessible for those serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Additional course and program fees apply, and tuition and fees are subject to change.
