What Are the Admissions Requirements for the Online MEd in Teaching and Learning?
To be considered for admission, applicants must have:
- a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution
- a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
*Required application packet materials include:
- valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate or statement of eligibility for candidates outside Kentucky
- two letters of recommendation
- professional resume
- signed code of ethics and technology use agreement
- one professional statement essay describing the applicant’s background and interest in this master’s program as follows:
- Describe how you, as an educator, understand your own learning process. What strategies, experiences or conditions best support your growth as a learner? How do you create inclusive, affirming spaces that honor the identities and backgrounds of every student? How do these insights influence your teaching practices?
- Please adhere to the following format for the essay:

How Much It Costs to Earn an Online MEdTL Degree at UofL
The College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) offers a reduced tuition rate per credit hour for advanced educator preparation programs. The new tuition reduction is approximately 25% less than the current standard graduate tuition rate.
The University of Louisville's base tuition rate is determined annually once the Kentucky State Legislature approves the recommendations from the University and the Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE).

The MEd in Teaching and Learning online degree at UofL offers flexible concentration pathways that allow you to tailor your graduate study to your professional goals. - Social Justice Education (Concentration)
The University of Louisville’s Social Justice Education concentration positions teachers to enact culturally sustaining practices in the classroom and advocate locally and beyond for social justice policies. Graduates of the program will possess a skillset geared towards designing and implementing an asset-oriented curriculum along with the capacity to conduct social justice research in education.
Coursework will illuminate how education in the U.S. got to this point of vast opportunity disparities across sociocultural groups in education by providing a deep understanding of the foundations of progressive education, curriculum theory and how educational policies influence practice. Coursework will also provide a practical approach to teaching with various sociocultural identities in mind and provide insights related to conduct justice-focused research in education.

Are classes available to complete the master's degree entirely online?
Yes! You can complete the entire program 100% online, but you also have the option of taking courses in person if you are local to Louisville.
Note: certain online courses are accessed via webcam in interactive, synchronous sessions (from 4:30 to 7 p.m. ET on specific weekdays).
May I transfer credits from another institution or program into my master's program?
Yes, you may request to transfer up to 6 credit hours from an accredited institution you attended previously, once you are admitted to the program. The credit transferred must be approved by your UofL advisor. Transfer requests are then submitted through the Graduate School at UofL.
How long does it take to complete this program?
The Teaching and Learning program can be completed in as few as 2 years or as many as 6 years, based on your schedule, life commitments, family responsibilities and goals.
What should I write about in my Personal Statement?
The admissions committee does not require a personal statement. Instead, the committee has provided an essay prompt for applicants to use and upload as the personal statement in the UofL Graduate Application:
