  • I am on active duty. Can I take online classes at UofL? 

Yes. You can take online classes from anywhere in the world, provided you have consistent internet access and are not located in an OFAC-sanctioned country.  

  • Will military Tuition Assistance (TA) cover the cost of online courses? 

If you are enrolled in a program that offers UofL's reduced military tuition rate of $250 per credit hour and you are eligible for Tuition Assistance (TA), the tuition portion of your bill will be covered. TA only covers tuition, so you are responsible for applicable fees. Eligibility requirements and the application process vary by branch of service, so check with your branch for details.  

  • What is UofL's military tuition rate? 

UofL offers a military tuition rate of $250 per credit hour for active-duty service members, Coast Guard members and qualifying members of the National Guard and Reserve who are eligible for Federal (Title X) Tuition Assistance. The rate applies to most undergraduate and graduate online programs, although some programs have exceptions. Additional fees may apply.  

  • What do I need to do to receive the $250 per credit hour military tuition rate? 

Provide UofL's Military Tuition Assistance staff with either your Tuition Assistance authorization form or current military orders showing more than 180 days. Students can learn more at the Student Services page for Military-Connected Tuition Rates. Please be aware that documents you supply during the application do not get forwarded, and may need to be submitted separately to miltuition@louisville.edu.  

  • I am a military veteran. Can I use my benefits at UofL? 

Yes. Veterans may use eligible military education benefits at UofL. For information about eligibility and using GI Bill benefits, visit UofL's Center for Military-Connected Students. You can also find out which education benefit is best for you at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Road Map for Success. 

  • How do I apply to use GI Bill benefits at UofL?

  • I have credit from several institutions. Will my credit transfer? 

UofL accepts credit from other accredited institutions. Find out if your previously-attended schools are accredited at the U.S. Department of Education’s database. You may also receive credit from work and experience during your service in the military. If you have specific questions about how your credit will transfer or need further assistance, please connect with us and request more information.

  • How do I use Military Tuition Assistance at UofL? 

First, register for your classes through CourseLeaf Path, then use that registration information in the request Tuition Assistance through your branch of service's education portal. Once your TA is approved, send the approved TA form to UofL's Military TA staff for processing and the Bursar's Office for invoicing. TA request deadlines vary by branch but are generally no later than seven days before the course start date.  

  • Who do I contact if I have questions about Military Tuition Assistance?

  • Can I use VA education benefits for travel expenses? 

No. VA education benefits cannot be used for travel expenses such as airfare or hotel costs. Students using Veterans Readiness and Employment (VR&E) should contact their VA counselor with questions about their benefits.  

  • Besides Military Tuition Assistance or VA education benefits, how else can I pay for school? 

Military-connected students can explore UofL scholarships specifically for military-connected students and other financial aid options through UofL's Student Financial Aid Office.  

  • Are there other benefits available to military-connected students at UofL? 

Yes. UofL offers additional benefits for military-connected students, including certain fee waivers and priority registration.
